The PUBCRIS database contains details of the approved active constituents and agricultural and veterinary chemicals which are registered for sale and use in Australia. The type of information available includes names of products or approved active contstituents, label information, label ingredients, formulation type, product type and the product's classification as either an agricultural/veterinary product or an approved active constituent.

How to search

  • Read the Disclaimer notice.
  • Enter details into at least one searchable field box (eg registrant) with text or text trunk (eg MONSANTO or MON). Please note that PUBCRIS does not allow the use of a 'wild card' ('%' percentage sign) to replace hyphens, commas or other characters for any text entered in a search field.
  • For each field entered, enter the 'Choose option' pick list and select either 'starts with' or 'contains' or 'equals'. For example 'SANTO' and 'contains'. If no selection is made, the search defaults to 'starts with'.
  • To find an active constituent, host animal/crop or disease/pest, use the 'select from list' link, which lists all the current valid entries. Make your selection and click on the 'OK/Back' button.
  • To narrow the search, fill in more than one box (eg Registrant name as MONSANTO and Disease/Pest name as BLACK SPOT. )
  • Enter a second active constituent into 'Active Constituent 2' and select 'AND' to return products containing both those active constituents or 'OR' to return a list of products containing either active constituent.(Search Tip: For actives with alternate spellings (eg; sulphur, sulfur) enter the alternate spellings into Active Constituent 1 and Active Constituent 2 and select 'OR' to return all the products containing this active constituent)
  • Before executing the search select an option from the 'Sort Results By' field to sort the results by either 'Product number', 'Product name', Product type' or 'Active/s'.
  • To execute a search, click on the 'Search' button.
  • The search results will yield a list of products. Further select from this list by clicking on coloured links.
  • Return to the PUBCRIS search page and use the 'Clear' button. Enter new search criteria.

Exporting search results

  • To export the results list, click on 'Export List' on the results page of your search, and then click on the 'Export' button. The results list from your search will be exported into a text file in bar-delimited format (|). A convenient format, which can be imported into other applications such as spreadsheets.
  • At the next pop-up screen, save the exported file by clicking on the 'Save' button.
  • You can change the file name to one of your choosing (eg; chlorpyrifos.txt), if the file name is not altered the file name defaults to 'products.txt'.
  • To save the text file, click on the 'Save' button again, and the text file will be saved into one of your local directories, (Tip: take note of where the text file has been saved for later retrieval).

Searchable fields

'Registrant' is a company which holds a registration for an agricultural or veterinary product or an approval for an active constituent. To search for all products registered by a particular company type the company name into the REGISTRANT box. It is not necessary to give the full company name (eg Acme Pestaway Pty Ltd). Parts of the company name can be entered (eg Pestaway) if the 'contains' option is then selected.

'Registration Date' is the date at which a new agricultural or veterinary chemical product has been registered or an active constituent approved for the current fiscal year. To return a list of new product registrations and active constituent approvals in the month of September in the current fiscal year, enter the date from '01/09/2005' and date to '30/09/2005'. Please note this search does not return product registation dates for previous fiscal years.

'Product name' is the name of a registered agricultural or veterinary product or approved active constituent name. It is the name on the approved label for that product. A search by product name will yield all products registered under that name. To search for products called 'Yates Zero Weedspray Concentrate' type this into the Product box and select 'equals'. If only part of the name is known, type in that part - eg ZERO and select the 'contains' option.

'Active Constituent 1 and 2' refers to the active chemical ingredient of an agricultural or veterinary product or approved active constituent. Active constituents are listed on the label of all products. A search by active constituent will yield all registered products and approved active constituents which contain that active. Enter the full name (eg CHLORPYRIFOS) or part of the name (eg PYRIFOS) and select either 'starts with', 'equals' or 'contains'.

'Host Animal/Crop' and 'Disease/Pest'. 'Host animal/crop' refers to the animal or plant which is under attack by a 'disease/pest' and is therefore subject to treatment by an agricultural or veterinary chemical chemical pesticide. 'Host' will normally be searched in combination with another criteria such as pest, product or company. For example, search for all products used to treat the host ROSE with the pest BLACKSPOT. Alternatively, search for products of a company which are registered for use against a particular pest (MONSANTO and BLACKSPOT). Approved actives do not have hosts or pests.

'Category' is the APVMA classification of agricultural and veterinary products and approved active constituents. The alternatives are available in the corresponding 'Category' picklist.

'Poison Schedule' refers to the scheduling classification for an agricultural or veterinary chemical product, derived from the 'Standard for the Uniform Scheduling of Drugs and Poisons'. '0' is used for unscheduled products.

'State Registered' relates to the States and Territories in which an agricultural or veterinary chemical product is registered.

'Formulation Type' is the APVMA classification used to describe the form in which the product is presented (eg; Liquid, tablet, or powder, etc).

'Product Type' refers to the broad classification groupings used by the APVMA to identify a products general use (eg; Fungicide, Dairy Cleanser, or Parasiticide, etc). Always refer to the approved label on the product container for the specific approved uses.
